Volunteers at Kwinana South Bush Fire Brigade have a new station and firefighting vehicle after the State Government invested nearly $2 million to modernise the brigade's resources.

The new facility has upgraded changing rooms to manage Personal Protective Clothing, larger bays for firefighting vehicles, a purpose-built training room and enhanced capability to accommodate an Incident Management Team during emergencies.

The old station had reached the end of its lifespan, having been constructed in 1991 by volunteers, community and local government.

Construction of the new facility was funded through $1.51 million from the Emergency Services Levy and $400,000 of Commonwealth funding secured by the City of Kwinana.

A new 3.4 Urban Tanker is also being delivered to the station. The appliance was designed by incorporating input from volunteers to ensure it meets their needs.

The tanker is valued at more than $450,000 and funded through the Emergency Services Levy.

Volunteers at the Kwinana South Bushfire Brigade have dedicated more than 550 hours of their time during the past two years responding to both local incidents and major emergencies.

Comments attributed to Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson:

"Kwinana South Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade has protected the local community for many decades and this new, modern station will serve them well for years to come.

"Being able to accommodate an Incident Management Team means this site can be used to manage significant bushfire incidents within the local area.

"The new 3.4 Urban Tanker comes equipped with the latest in crew protection and can be used for a variety of firefighting situations.

"This new station and appliance symbolise the State Government's respect for the work of our volunteer firefighters."
