- McGowan Government connecting WA food businesses with export markets
- A delegation of 12 WA food businesses attending ThaiFex trade show
The McGowan Government is providing Western Australian food and beverage businesses with the opportunity to showcase products on the global stage this week as part of the international ThaiFex Anuga 2023 trade show.
ThaiFex Anuga is Asia's largest food and beverage trade show with more than 60,000 attendees and 2,700 exhibitors expected at this year's event. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is taking a delegation of 12 WA businesses to the trade show in Bangkok from 23 to 27 May.
Thailand is a promising export market with a rising disposable income and a large visitor market driving increasing demand for imported food and beverage products. The value of WA agrifood exports to Thailand was approximately $114 million in 2020-2021.
The trade show is an exciting opportunity for businesses to connect with retailers, distributors and major food service providers to explore opportunities to meet the growing consumer demand and boost exports.
WA products on show will include seafood such as oysters, octopus, sardines, salmon and tuna, as well as yoghurt varieties and strawberries.
There will also be an array of gourmet value-added products including black truffle oil, salt, honey and honeycomb, lupin-based flour and pasta products, seasoned breadcrumbs, and rubs and sauces.
Comments attributed to Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis:
"WA produces an incredible array of high quality, sustainable and diverse food and beverages.
"Thailand is an emerging market with increasing consumer demand for premium seafood, meat, dairy, strawberries, and value-added products.
"With more than 50,000 visitors expected at the ThaiFex trade show this week, this provides a fantastic platform for our WA businesses to promote their products and build relationships and business connections within the Thai and IndoChina markets."
