Western Australia's regional and remote communities are encouraged to enter the 2023 Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards.

The Keep Australia Beautiful Council's annual awards are today being launched at a community clean-up event in the Wheatbelt town of Williams, in partnership with the Community Resource Centre.

The town took out last year's Environmental Education Award for its Williams Wildlife Warriors program. More than 80 children have attended the free after-school sessions, run with the support of 30 volunteers, to learn how to protect flora, fauna, soils and waterways.

Earlier this month, Gascoyne Junction was named the national Tidy Towns winner, with the opportunity to host the national awards next year.

The award categories include:

  • Litter Prevention;
  • Waste Management;
  • Community Containers for Change;
  • Young Legends;
  • Environmental Sustainability;
  • Environmental Education;
  • Heritage and Culture;
  • Community Action and Wellbeing;
  • General Appearance; and
  • Leadership Award (at judges' discretion).
