Volunteers shine at annual awards ceremony

Inspiring Western Australians have been honoured at the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards. The seven winners were last night chosen from 22 finalists, who all embody the volunteering spirit.

From mental health support to maths tutoring and a special program reducing e-waste, the recipients represent the wide range of volunteering opportunities across the State. 

Hosted by Volunteering WA as part of National Volunteer Week (15 to 21 May), the Awards promote the important contributions of volunteering to the social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing of WA.

Volunteering Minister Stephen Dawson last night acknowledged the remarkable generosity of WA volunteers as he addressed the awards ceremony.

Winners of the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards 2023:

  • RAC WA Volunteer of the Year -  Rahul Seth, Activate Mental Health;
  • WA Young Volunteer of the Year - Samuel Thomas, Sam's Spares;
  • WA Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering - Amanda Draper, South West Mathematics Association and St John Ambulance;
  • WA Excellence in Volunteer Management - Vicki Pollard, Peel Volunteer Resource Centre;
  • WA Volunteer for Multicultural Communities Award - Susanne Becker-Hamersley, Bunbury Multicultural Group;
  • WA Excellence in Corporate Volunteering - REIWA; and
  • WA Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year - Friends of the Community.
