Western Australian community projects will benefit from sharing in about $600,000 in unclaimed gambling winnings.

The Gaming Community Trusts grants program is now open with funding between $20,000 and $50,000 available for eligible not-for-profit or charitable projects run by individuals or organisations.

The Gaming Community Trust provides advice and recommendations to WA's Racing and Gaming Minister on the distribution of funds from casino gaming and wagering prizes unclaimed for at least 12 months.

There are five categories including:

  • Aboriginal Promotion;
  • Disability Inclusion;
  • Problem Gambling Harm Reduction;
  • Community Sports Engagement; and
  • Community Culture.

Clear benefits to the community must be demonstrated to receive a grant. For more information or to apply by 13 July 2023, visit www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/funding/gaming-community-trust

Comments attributed to Racing and Gaming Minister Reece Whitby:

"This is a fantastic initiative to see unclaimed winnings distributed to worthwhile community causes.

"I look forward to seeing community projects benefit where they create a more connected, vibrant Western Australia and help those facing disadvantage or vulnerability.

"What better way to disburse prize money that has not been claimed, while supporting a reduction in problem gambling."
