Major milestone reached for the new Murdoch Square and MediHotel

Today the new Murdoch Square, including the MediHotel, has reached a major milestone with the topping out ceremony, marking final construction on the project.

The 80-bed MediHotel will allow patients to recuperate away from a hospital environment but with medical and nursing support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The MediHotel that is being built as part of the Murdoch Square development has the capacity to accommodate patients undergoing treatment and recovery.

Comprehensive primary health care services will also be located on the site including an Urgent Care Clinic with minor trauma rooms and general practitioner services, such as pharmacy, imaging and pathology.

Other facilities include a Transitional Recovery Unit for mental health patients requiring long-term rehabilitation and end of life care for patients who do not need specialist high level hospice care.

The McGowan Government has partnered with South Metropolitan Health Service, Development WA, Aegis Aged Care Group and Hesperia to deliver this important commitment.

A 30-metre patient access bridge between Fiona Stanley Hospital and the Medihotel is complete, with Murdoch Square scheduled for completion in late 2023.

The MediHotel will be next to the new $1.8 billion Woman and Babies Hospital, that will be built within the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct.

"The MediHotel will provide nursing and medical support for people who have been discharged from hospital but are not ready to return home yet.

"Giving them a comfortable environment to receive ongoing care and operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week will be particularly beneficial for patients from regional WA, to recuperate away from a hospital environment.

"We want to provide a greater range of services to match patients' needs and this MediHotel and the Murdoch Square precinct does just that."
