Western Australians are encouraged to have their say to help shape the State's Waste Strategy.

A directions paper has been released for a six-week consultation period as part of a review of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030.

The Waste Strategy is reviewed every five years. The directions paper sets out the key areas the Waste Authority wants to focus on going forward and allows Western Australians to provide early input.

It also gives a snapshot on how the State is performing in meeting its targets, identifies strengths and opportunities for the future as well as areas for improvement.

This first phase of consultation will be open until 11 July 2023. The feedback will help develop a draft updated Waste Strategy, which will be released for a 12-week consultation period later this year.

Online information sessions will be available. To learn more or to make a submission, visit wasteauthority.wa.gov.au

Comments attributed to Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

"I encourage Western Australians to get involved and provide their feedback to shape the next Waste Strategy to help create a low-waste, sustainable State.

"This timely review provides an opportunity to reflect on what is working well and highlight our priority areas for the future.

"We each have a role to play in reducing waste and to help make landfill the last resort."
