Expressions of Interest launched for new Subi East housing project

• State Government seeks community housing providers and developers to deliver integrated new residential project adjoining Subiaco Oval
• 1.08 hectare site to deliver up to 350 dwellings, including public and community housing
• Demolition of ageing former public housing complex at Court Place makes way for new development

The next stage of development at the Subi East project will see the delivery of up to 350 new homes at Court Place, adjacent to Subiaco Oval, within the Oval precinct.  

The integrated housing development, which is part of the State Government's pilot Housing Diversity Pipeline, will include a variety of housing solutions with 42 per cent to be social housing, accounting for approximately 15 per cent of the total 1,000 new dwellings expected to be delivered across the Oval precinct.

Early-stage demolition works have commenced on the site to remove the 58 vacant, ageing and no longer fit for purpose public housing dwellings, which will make way for the development of modern, high-quality housing options for a diverse range of occupants.

The scale of the 1.08 hectare Court Place site and its proximity to amenities, provides a unique opportunity to deliver integrated social, affordable and private market housing, underpinned by design excellence.

As a significant urban redevelopment project, Subi East will see the creation of a vibrant new urban village with a total of about 2,700 new homes and will play a significant role in meeting the future housing needs in the Perth metropolitan area.

The State Government is now seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) in the Court Place site from suitably qualified community housing providers or development consortiums which share its vision for a project that will deliver genuine housing choice and open up opportunities for a diverse range of Western Australians.

To be eligible for consideration, developers must be a registered WA Tier 1 or 2 community housing provider (CHP) or partner with a CHP as part of a consortium.

Both the demolition works and the EOI are being managed by DevelopmentWA on behalf of the Department of Communities, with demolition expected to be completed in the second half of 2023.

The Oval is one of several key precincts – and the first to be developed - at Subi East, which will provide new homes for 4,000 residents alongside shopping, dining and entertainment options.

The 35ha urban regeneration project will also deliver a range of new community amenities including public open space, sports facilities and play areas.
