The State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening the Western Australia-China trade and investment relationship, with the Premier leading the 5th Western Australia-China Strategic Dialogue in Beijing last night.

Around 30 key business leaders from across Australia and China attended the Dialogue, which provided a forum for direct discussion between the Premier, Chinese private investors and senior leaders of Chinese state-owned enterprises operating in WA.

Industries represented at the Dialogue included mining and resources, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, financial services and banking as well as primary industries.

In his speech welcoming attendees, the Premier highlighted that since the event was first held during a visit to Beijing in 2018, the Dialogue has been an important platform to meet with Chinese investors to better understand their priorities and challenges.

Jointly hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce in Australia (CCCA) Perth Branch and the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) Western Australia Branch, the Premier's 5th Annual Western Australia-China Strategic Dialogue was the first Dialogue to be held in China since 2018. The 2019, 2021 and 2022 Dialogues were all held in Perth.

The Dialogue is an important opportunity for the State Government to show strong support for prospective and existing Chinese investment in WA.

China is WA's largest trading partner, with $146 billion of goods traded in 2022.

Western Australia exported $136 billion of goods to China in 2022, well above the annual average of $82 billion over the past 10 years. WA accounted for 79 per cent of Australia's total exports of goods to China in that year.
