- 2023 Premier's Anzac Student Tour participants attend official presentation ceremony
- The tour will travel to Sydney and New Zealand in April
- Students and staff learn about Australia's military history and commemorate the Anzac legacy
Participants of the 2023 Premier's Anzac Student Tour to Sydney and New Zealand have come together for an official presentation ceremony at the Australian War Widows WA Inc.
Premier Mark McGowan attended the special presentation ceremony for the 10 successful students and two staff selected to take part. The event marks the beginning of a three-day briefing session to prepare for the tour.
The 10-day tour begins on 16 April and will commemorate the 78th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the Japanese attack on Sydney Harbour.
The 2023 Premier's Anzac Student Tour participants include:
- Year 9 Elizaveta Fedotova from Bob Hawke College;
- Year 9 Adoley Mensah from Wyndham District High School;
- Year 10 Poppy Fletcher from Mount Lawley Senior High School;
- Year 10 Joshua Patrick from Northam Senior High School;
- Year 11 Harry Forman from Katanning Senior High School;
- Year 11 Georgia Kikiros from St Andrew's Grammar;
- Year 11 Zoe Stockdale from Eastern Goldfields College;
- Year 11 Lila Wenzel from Great Southern Grammar;
- Year 12 Rishita Sarkar from Perth Modern School; and
- Year 12 Ebony Whitney from Collie Senior High School.
The tour itinerary includes a number of significant sites in Sydney such as the Plotting Room at North Fort, the Sydney Jewish Museum, the Anzac War Memorial and the Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre.
Students will also visit the Stony Batter historic defence installation on Waiheke Island in New Zealand and will commemorate Anzac Day at the Auckland War Memorial.
Initiated in 2003, the annual Premier's Anzac Student Tour provides a unique opportunity for students to strengthen their knowledge of, and commitment to, Australia's rich military history through visiting historic Anzac landmarks. Since 2004, a total of 246 secondary students have been selected to take part.
