Public schools are invited to apply for the third round of clean energy funding to help reduce energy costs and create a more sustainable future.

The McGowan Government's $44.6 million Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund was created to provide clean energy solutions, including solar panels and other energy saving technologies, to Western Australian public schools over four years.

Education Minister Dr Tony Buti said round three of the fund will focus on increasing energy efficiency and will be a two-stage approach.

The first stage will involve successful schools having lighting upgraded to light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

The second stage will include schools receiving a customised sustainability tool that will assist staff to better manage energy use and reduce carbon emissions. The online application will enable schools to measure, monitor and reduce their energy use, water use and waste generation.

The clean energy fund has already allowed almost 200 schools to become more energy efficient through the first two rounds and aligns with the Western Australian Climate Change Policy.

Comments attributed to Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

"The Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund is a fantastic McGowan Government initiative that supports WA public schools to have a lower environmental impact and reduced energy costs.

"It also provides opportunities for students to learn about the importance of sustainability and making positive changes for the environment.

"Since the fund launched in November 2021, almost 200 schools have benefited from this initiative and committed to a greener future."
