Have your say on the State's new screen production facility

The community is invited to have their say on the development application for Western Australia's first dedicated screen production facility.
  • Development application submitted for proposed screen production facility
  • Proposed site along Marshall Road within Planning Control Area 174
  • Application to be considered by the Western Australian Planning Commission

The community is invited to have their say on the development application for Western Australia's first dedicated screen production facility.

The facility is proposed to be located along Marshall Road, to the south of Whiteman Park, and would provide purpose-built sound stages and other onsite screen production facilities to enable the production of film, TV and screen projects.

The development application has been submitted by Home Fire Creative Industries Pty Ltd, the preferred proponent as part of the active Market-led Proposal. The application includes architectural designs and technical reports for traffic, waste and bushfire management, and landscaping.

The Western Australian Planning Commission will consider the application as the proposed site is located within the recently approved Planning Control Area 174 - METRONET Bennett Springs North (Marshall Road).

This PCA will ensure the coordinated and strategic development of the land within this area to ensure proposals align with the purposes identified for the land.

If the Market-led Proposal is approved by the State Government, Home Fire will construct, operate and maintain the facility.

Comments on the development application close at 5pm, Friday 30 March 2023 and can be made by visiting https://consultation.dplh.wa.gov.au/land-use-planning/screen-production-facility

Comments attributed to Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"I encourage everyone with an interest in Western Australia's screen industry to have their say on the development application for the proposed screen production facility.

"The recent announcement identifying the new proposed site along Marshall Road, in the vicinity of the Malaga METRONET station precinct, has enabled Home Fire to undertake the necessary plans and assessments to complete the development application.

"The site is part of the recently approved Planning Control Area which is in the vicinity of future strategic community and employment hubs in Perth's growing north-east with two high-frequency train stations, homes and businesses, and now the potential for a one-of-a-kind screen production facility.

"The PCA will enable coordination of all upcoming development within this area to ensure the corridor benefits from the McGowan Government's significant infrastructure investment."

Comments attributed to Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

"The McGowan Government is committed to delivering a screen production facility to help attract film, TV and screen projects to WA.

"It was a 2021 Election commitment and is a component of the WA Screen Industry Strategy, which is currently being developed to ensure the State is best placed to grow the film and screen sector over the coming decade.

"I am excited about the opportunities that a facility of this kind can bring to our passionate and extremely talented creative sector. I encourage you to have your say on this next step."
