Visitors and locals wanting to learn more about Western Australia's coal mining history are encouraged to visit the new and improved Collie Underground Coal Mine Experience.

A McGowan Government investment has transformed the attraction - originally constructed in the 1980s - into a fascinating must-see heritage attraction featuring contemporary interactive exhibits and activities.

Officially reopened today by Regional Development Minister Don Punch and Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns, the redeveloped replica underground mine further enhances Collie's diverse tourism offerings.

The immersive space co-located with the Collie Visitor Centre offers a window into the working life of Collie coal miners and the dangerous conditions they endured working underground in the 1950s.

Guests can explore the history of coal mining in Collie, gain insight into the jobs undertaken, peruse historic artifacts, and hear stories from former mine workers.

As part of the immersive experience, guests will feel the ground rumble in a simulated coal face blast that incorporates an audio-visual projection featuring a cameo by former Member for Collie-Preston Mick Murray.

Appealing to all ages, youngsters are encouraged to look for the 'critters' that can be found hiding in the replica mine.
