- Western Australian start-ups and small businesses are invited to apply for an Innovation Booster Grant
- Grant amount available to applicants has doubled in 2023, to up to $40,000
- The grants are designed to help innovators overcome barriers on the path to commercialisation
From today, Western Australian start-ups and small businesses can apply for grants of up to $40,000 to help get their ideas off the ground.
Innovation Booster Grants (IBGs) are designed to give innovators a leg up on the path to commercialisation.
This year, the grant amount on offer has doubled, from $20,000 to up to $40,000.
Grants are awarded in the following categories:
- Research and development;
- Product development;
- Technology transfer and intellectual property; and
- Commercialisation Support Services.
First launched in 2011, the IBG is part of the McGowan Government's $16.7 million New Industries Fund. The fund aims to attract investment and promote the economic diversification of WA.
Since launch, 233 grants have been awarded worth approximately $3.7 million.
Previous grant recipient, medtech start-up Neurotologix, used their 2020 grant to develop an intellectual property strategy. The company has since developed an innovative low-cost remote patient monitoring system, with proven potential to revolutionise how dizziness and vertigo are diagnosed.
Almost 3 million Australians will experience dizziness. In 2022, Neurotologix won the overall WA Innovator of the Year Award, including a $70,000 cash prize, to further assist their research.
Applications for the 2023 IBG open on Wednesday 15 February 2023 and close a month later on 15 March 2023 at 11:00 am AWST
