Six culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) community associations, including two from regional Western Australia, have received $849,000 to deliver coordination, advocacy and support services to their communities.

The funding, over three years, has been provided through the triennial Community Support Fund administered by the Office of Multicultural Interests.

The following organisations have received funding to support their activities through to 2025:

  • Bunbury Multicultural Group;
  • Chung Wah Association;
  • Indian Society of WA;
  • Midwest Multicultural Association;
  • Organisation of African Communities of WA; and
  • Vietnamese Community in Australia-WA Chapter.

These associations, mostly staffed by a team of committed volunteers, provide services and support for culturally and linguistically diverse communities across a broad range of areas including education, youth development, immigration, economic participation and wellbeing.

They are also advocating for their communities in some of the most pressing and complex issues facing our society such as domestic violence and discrimination.

Comments attributed to Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Dr Tony Buti:

"These associations work tirelessly to support their communities to deal and respond to many different issues and this funding plays an essential role in helping to provide this vital service.

"It is important to recognise these are volunteer-based community associations, powered by dedicated people who are committed to the wellbeing of our society.

"This funding not only allows these associations to support the needs of their communities now, but also contributes towards meeting the evolving needs of our culturally diverse communities in the future."
