Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman today announced the open tender process to appoint a consultant to undertake an independent review into the culture and governance of the WA Institute of Sport (WAIS) is now live.
In June 2022, Sport Integrity Australia conducted a review of the WAIS Women's Artistic Gymnastics Program, which ran from 1984 to 2016. This was in response to allegations that gymnasts, including children, experienced harmful behaviour and practices while participating in the program.
Following the report's findings, the Sport and Recreation Minister directed the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) to undertake a range of actions, including instigating a comprehensive culture and governance review of WAIS.
Today, DLGSC issued a tender that is seeking proposals to conduct the review from credible and experienced proponents. An open tender process is being used to help ensure transparency and accountability. The review will involve the participation of a wide range of stakeholders, including the WAIS Board, staff and current and former athletes.
