    • Request for tender for centralised cats and dogs registration system open at TendersWA
    • System will streamline registrations and help put an end to puppy farming

The State Government has today opened a Request for Tender for Western Australia's first centralised registration system for cats and dogs.

The centralised registration system was a key McGowan Government election commitment and is an integral part of the Stop Puppy Farming legislation that passed State Parliament in December 2021.

Once operational, the system will provide owners with a central point to register their pets and keep their details up to date, assisting local governments to track pets and stop the cruel practice of puppy farming.

The centralised registration system is being developed following extensive consultation with the local government sector and is anticipated to be operational in the second half of 2023.

The tender is advertised on the TendersWA website: Tenders WA | Display Tender E22036438DLGSC

Comments attributed to Acting Local Government Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"The McGowan Government has engaged with local governments throughout Western Australia to find out exactly what they require from a centralised registration system for cats and dogs, and ensuring the system will meet those diverse needs.

"The central registration system will ensure a consistent approach to dog and cat registration no matter which local government area a pet owner lives in.

"More importantly, this is another positive step forward as the McGowan Government is getting on with the job of implementing the Stop Puppy Farming legislation.

"Parts of the legislation have already been successfully put to work, including the de-muzzling of pet greyhounds."
