    • Mission to showcase WA's potential and drive investment into local jobs
    • Japan and South Korea among WA's most significant trading partners

Premier Mark McGowan will travel to Japan and South Korea next week to reaffirm the State's long-standing relationships in Northeast Asia and promote opportunities for investment, tourism, study and business in Western Australia.

The mission, the Premier's second official visit to both countries, will be an opportunity to promote investment in a range of different sectors, including medical research and biotech, space, defence, and agriculture, with a focus on renewable energy, critical minerals, and downstream processing.

The Premier will travel to Japan on Sunday, 22 January to attend discussions with key Government and business partners, meeting with representatives from Japanese Steel Mills, Mitsui, All Nippon Airways, Mitsubishi Corp, Austal and other companies.

During the mission, the Premier will meet with Government officials, including the Governor of Tokyo and the Governor of Hyogo Prefecture.

The Premier will also speak at the 4th Clean Fuel Ammonia Association International Symposium in Japan to promote WA's green hydrogen and ammonia potential to major international investors.

In South Korea, the Premier will meet with Hyundai Motors and visit their Fuel Cell Site as well as meet with representatives from the Korea Gas Corporation and Hyundai Steel.

The Premier will also meet with South Korean steel giant POSCO following the State Government's decision this month to allocate industrial land in the Pilbara to the company for its green hydrogen ambitions.

Japan and South Korea are important trading partners with WA, contributing 85 per cent of the total value of WA's petroleum exports in 2021-2022.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"WA will be a world leader in battery minerals and renewable hydrogen, and this mission will help to position our State as a major supplier to Japan and South Korea in decades to come.

"Our relationships with Japan and South Korea are built on mutual respect and understanding, and it's important we continue to build those successful ties.

"In my capacity as Premier and Treasurer, I will be meeting with business leaders and Government officials to help attract investment into our State, helping to drive local jobs and diversify our economy."
