The Hands Oval Pavilion redevelopment has been given a boost with an additional $3 million investment by the McGowan Government, increasing the total contribution to $8 million as part of the WA Recovery Plan.

The redevelopment will see the construction of a new pavilion with sustainable, inclusive multi-purpose sports facilities and grandstand seating. The redeveloped Hands Oval will accommodate year-round sport, recreation and community activity, including major events, and will be capable of accommodating pre-season AFL and AFLW games.

With the State Government investment, the total funding for the project is $17.42 million, with other contributions from the Australian Government, the City of Bunbury, and the South West Football League.

Construction is scheduled for January 2023 with expected completion by the end of 2024.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

"The McGowan Government recognises the value of investing in projects such as this, which continue to boost the recovery of the WA economy.

"We have a flourishing sports community, and the Hands Oval redevelopment will provide a high-quality stadium and facilities to support that.

"This $8 million investment will allow Western Australians to enjoy more sporting events and activities while providing an economic boost for our State."

Comments attributed to Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

"Hands Oval is the premier football facility, and one of the best outdoor venues in general, not just in Bunbury but in the entire South-West.

"This is an important investment for our region, and one that will support the attraction of key State and national events to our community.

"For everyone who enjoys sport, especially football, as either a participant, a supporter or as a spectator, this project will deliver a fantastic asset to support the growth of sport in our region for many years to come.

"Whether it be investments in major infrastructure and road projects or funding for community and recreational facilities, funding such as this is part of the McGowan Government's commitment to the long-term growth and economic success of our community."
