    • $3.9 million contracts to deliver eight one and two-bedroom homes
    • Contracts awarded to Broome Aboriginal company Kullarri Building
    • Up to 10 jobs created and 33 sub-contractors to be employed

A $3.9 million contract to deliver eight new dwellings has been awarded to Kullarri Building, a Broome-based Aboriginal company specialising in the construction and refurbishment of housing and related infrastructure.

Kullarri Building is an active participant in the local community and has a corporate partnership with Nirrumbuk Aboriginal Corporation.

Nirrumbuk is owned and managed by Aboriginal people from Broome and the Dampier Peninsula and provides training and apprenticeships for locals.

The two two-bedroom homes and six one-bedroom homes will accommodate singles and families from the public housing waitlist in the Fitzroy Crossing preference zone.

Construction is now underway and the homes are designed to achieve energy ratings of between 6.8 and 7.6 stars.

Comments attributed to Housing Minister John Carey:

"I'm deeply proud that eight new social housing properties will be built in Fitzroy Crossing in a boost to public housing stock in the West Kimberley region.

"Our Government is using every lever we can to bolster the supply of social housing across the State, including traditional construction, our innovative timber frame and modular build programs, spot purchasing programs and funding grants to community housing providers."

"Awarding significant contracts to Kullari, an Indigenous-owned and managed company with a strong record of delivering housing and related infrastructure in the West Kimberley, demonstrates this Government's commitment to its landmark Aboriginal Procurement Policy.

"This is part of the McGowan Government's $2.4 billion investment in housing and homelessness, including the delivery of around 3,300 new social dwellings and the refurbishment of thousands of others."

Comments attributed to Aboriginal Affairs Minister Dr Tony Buti:

"More housing means more stability for the community of Fitzroy Crossing.

"Together with growing programs to support local youths and build up leaders in Fitzroy Crossing, these new homes will help alleviate some pressure on the town.

"We will continue to work with community leaders and local governments in the Kimberley on locally led initiatives that help regional communities fulfil their potential.

"Secure housing in regional communities is also a key factor in meeting a number of outcomes in the WA Closing the Gap Implementation Plan."

Comments attributed to Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:

"I'm pleased to see the McGowan Government continues its delivery of new social housing properties in Fitzroy Crossing.

"This will be a big boost to those in our community who need these homes and also to the Broome Aboriginal company, Kullari Building, with up to 10 new jobs created and 33 subcontractors employed during construction."
