Excellence in research and referencing was celebrated at the annual Margaret Medcalf Award ceremony this morning, with Emily Lanman and Dr Leigh Straw taking out the joint winning prize.
Ms Emily Lanman is a PhD candidate in History at the University of Notre Dame Australia and was awarded for her work on 'Prisoners, Power and Panopticon: Investigating Fremantle Gaol, 1831-1841'.
Dr Leigh Straw is Associate Professor in History at the University of Notre Dame and the author of several true crime biographies and Australian history publications. As joint winner of the 2018 Margaret Medcalf Award, Dr Straw was awarded for her work 'The Petticoat Parade: Madam Monnier and the Roe Street Brothels' from Fremantle Press.
The Award recognises excellence in research and referencing using the State Archives Collection - the largest archival collection in Western Australia.
