    • Perth to host the United Cup, a new global mixed team tennis event
    • The tournament will showcase equality at the highest level of the sport, with mixed teams representing their countries
    • World's best players in Perth in huge boost for local fans and businesses

It's game, set and match for Perth today, as the capital was announced as one of three host cities for the inaugural United Cup, a new global mixed team tennis event.

Tennis Australia today announced Perth, Sydney and Brisbane will collectively host the group stage as part of the 11-day tournament, which kicks off in Perth from 29 December and replaces the former ATP Cup.

Countries will compete for an unprecedented prize pool of $15 million USD and - in a world-first - 500 men and women's ranking points.

In this new multi-city round robin format – Perth and the other two host cities will each host two groups of three countries.

Teams will comprise of three to four men and three to four women tennis players from each country.

Each tie includes two women's and two men's singles matches and one mixed doubles match.

Group winners will play off for one of three semi-final places, with the remaining place in the semis to be awarded to the best performing team from the competition.

The first 12 countries will qualify for the United Cup via the six highest-ranked players from an individual country, while the remaining six teams will qualify based on the best combined No.1 ranking of men's and women's players from the same country.

Perth will host day and night matches from 29 December 2022 to 4 January 2023.

The United Cup's official draw will be held on 10 November to determine where the top 16 countries will play, before a second draw on 23 November for the remaining two teams.

Tickets for the United Cup matches will go on sale on Friday 11 November.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

"This is yet another spectacular event for WA's rapidly growing events calendar.

"The WA Government proudly supported world-class tennis through the Hopman Cup and ATP Cup for more than 30 years.

"So I'm thrilled that we will be welcoming the return of international tennis to Perth in the form of the United Cup.

"World-class sporting events like the United Cup give people a reason to visit Western Australia, bring in tourist dollars for local businesses and generate valuable broadcast opportunities and media coverage across our key markets.

"I cannot wait to see tens of thousands of fans at RAC Arena once again to witness world-class tennis players in action in what promises to be a sizzling summer of tennis."

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

"The players loved it, the crowd loved it, and local businesses loved it.

"So it is superb that world's best male and female tennis players will be returning to Perth for this exciting new event.
