    • Western Australians encouraged to get active outside during October
    • Outdoor recreation, nature-based tourism, and adventure recreation make a huge contribution to health, wealth, wellbeing, and happiness
    • A number of free, family-friendly, and beginner level events are planned across the State

Outdoors October kicks off this Saturday 1 October with a month-long celebration of outdoor active recreation, with the aim of encouraging Western Australians to start planning their own outdoor adventures.

Activities are planned all over the State to mark Outdoors October, with many being free, family-friendly, and designed for beginners.

Making a personal pledge to get outside and explore more of Perth and Peel's world-class trails, Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman officially launched the event at the Bold Park Ecology Centre - a biodiversity and recreation hotspot in Perth's northern suburbs - today.

Outdoors October is organised by Outdoors WA - the peak body for outdoor activities in WA - and is a key deliverable of the 'More People More Active Outdoors' framework.

Outdoor recreation, nature-based tourism, and adventure recreation make a huge contribution to the health, wealth, wellbeing, and happiness of individuals and communities in Western Australia. They also contribute greatly to the State's economy.

Outdoors October will culminate with the WA Outdoor Recreation Sector Awards to be held on Friday 28 October 2022.  To plan your next outdoor adventure visit Outdoors WA.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

"This October is the perfect time to make the most of the beautiful outdoor trails we are lucky enough to have in the Perth and Peel regions.

"There is a growing body of evidence that shows that 'nature's green gym' provides benefits that outweigh those provided by exercising indoors.

"Spring is the perfect time to get outside in WA. The weather is improving and it's a quieter period between the winter and summer sport seasons.

"Whether you retreat to one of WA's many national parks for a bushwalk and picnic with the family, organise a day out with your mates on one of our world class mountain bike trails or take the dog to the local park, WA has something for everyone to get active outdoors."
