    • Free, family friendly street-festival to take over Wellington Street during the Telethon Weekend
    • Public transport will be free on the day to get people to and from the event
    • State Government will provide traffic management support on the day

The upcoming Telethon Family Festival in the Perth CBD has received a major boost with the McGowan Government announcing a $100,000 grant to support the event, and free public transport on the day.

With Telethon moving to RAC Arena in 2022, a carnival-like atmosphere is expected to descend on Wellington Street with the staging of the Telethon Family Festival for the first time.

The Telethon Family Festival will see Wellington Street closed off between Elder Street and William Street - with live music, roving entertainment, community performances, food trucks, and plenty of other entertainment for families to enjoy.

To ensure families can get to and from the event, the State Government has announced public transport will be free across the entire network on October 23.

The State Government - through Main Roads - will also be providing traffic management on the day, in coordination with the City of Perth.

The Telethon Family Festival is one of 24 recipients of the first round of the CBD Revitalisation Grant Program, which offers grants of up to $100,000 to businesses, not-for-profits, and property owners with ideas for events in the Perth CBD and Northbridge.

The CBD Revitalisation Grant Program is part of a $12 million package aimed at increasing foot traffic in the Perth CBD and Northbridge, and makes it a more connected, active, and attractive place to live, work, visit or play.

Comments attributed to Local Government Minister John Carey:

"Telethon is a WA icon - one of the great institutions of this State - ensuring some of the most vulnerable children in our community get the support they need.

"Telethon has inspired millions of Western Australians, and our Government is deeply proud to continue supporting them.

"It's brilliant to have Telethon come into the heart of the Perth CBD and attract families to this carnival-like, family friendly festival.

"It is great to see such a diverse range of events being successful in the first round of the CBD Revitalisation Grant Program, supporting the activation of some great locations throughout the City and Northbridge.

"Our city is lucky to have such a wide range of businesses and organisations able to stage these vibrant events.

"I encourage everyone to support these events, and to enjoy the fantastic buildings, streets and spaces being used."

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Telethon is synonymous with Western Australia, and the Telethon Family Festival will be a new chapter for this iconic event.

"We want the inaugural Telethon Family Festival to be a major success, which is why the State Government is throwing its support behind the event with a $100,000 grant, free public transport, and traffic management on the day.

"We want to see thousands of people in the CBD to support Telethon, which has done so much for sick and vulnerable kids in our community.

"Mark down October 23 in your diary, make the most of the free public transport on the day, and come join in on the festivities at the Telethon Family Festival."
