- Iconic Shinju Matsuri Festival to transform Broome for 16 days
- Series of events set to showcase town's unique multicultural offering

Shinju Matsuri 2022 kicks off tomorrow with the LiveLighter Opening Ceremony at Town Beach, as thousands are set to visit Broome for the annual celebration.
Now in its 52nd year, the event is proudly supported by the McGowan Government through Tourism WA's Regional Events Program and is one of the longest-running events in Western Australia.
The festival attracted almost 2,000 visitors to Broome last year, adding more than $7.4 million to the local economy and generating more than 27,000 room nights for the region.
A celebration of the Kimberley region's rich pearling history, multicultural community and dramatic landscapes, the 16-day festival will feature more than 50 events and activities including highlights such as the Jetty Gala, the Floating Lantern Matsuri, the Sunset Long Table Dinner, the Chinatown Feast and the Festival Hub.
The event originated from Japanese, Malaysian and Chinese cultural festivals established when fortune-seekers, attracted by Broome's South Sea Pearl production in the late 1800s, flocked to the town.
