- Professor Ian Everall appointed as new Executive Director for WA Health Translation Network (WAHTN)
- New appointment brings more than three decades of executive management experience to the role

Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson today announced Professor Ian Everall as the new Executive Director for the WA Health Translation Network (WAHTN).
WAHTN is a State-wide network made up of universities, medical research institutes, public and private hospitals, health service providers and the Department of Health.
Its purpose is to steer evidence-based health and medical research into changes in policy, practice, training and innovation to benefit the health and wellbeing of all Western Australians.
Professor Everall, a distinguished psychiatrist, has been at the forefront of research into cellular, molecular and genetic changes in the brain in major psychiatric disorders.
Across three decades, Professor Everall's appointments have included Professor of Experimental Neuropathology at the Institute of Psychiatry and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego.
Professor Everall was Cato Chair of Psychiatry and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne from 2009 to 2017.
In 2014, he was awarded a Doctor of Science by the University of Melbourne for his thesis on 'Investigations into the molecular and cellular neuropathology of psychiatric disorders'.
Professor Everall was also Executive Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King's College London from 2017 to 2022.
The Department of Health is a partner of the WAHTN under a joint venture agreement and has been a key financial supporter since its establishment in 2015.
WAHTN is a Western Australian accredited Advanced Health Research Translation Centre under the Australian Health Research Alliance. This centre, along with the WA Country Health Service-Curtin University Research and Innovation Alliance, promote collaboration for health and medical research, health translation and provision of research-based health care and training.
