    • McGowan Government stands with people of Ukraine
    • $500,000 donation to provide emergency relief and humanitarian aid

The McGowan Government has donated $500,000 to help the people of Ukraine as they deal with the humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion.

The donation to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal, which is partnered with Rotary Australia, was delivered through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

It will be used to provide emergency relief and humanitarian aid to those affected by the war.

In Ukraine, the devastation has led to a large-scale humanitarian crisis as many people flee the country to seek refuge.

Around 6000 temporary visas have been granted to Ukraine nationals by the Australian Government, many of whom are now in Western Australia.

In recent years the McGowan Government has also provided aid to countries such as India and Indonesia to assist with their pandemic response.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"My thoughts are with the people of Ukraine in this very difficult time.

"We stand in solidarity with all Western Australians of Ukrainian heritage and those with connections and relatives in Ukraine.

"We hope these funds offer some relief against the unprovoked and brutal aggression by the Russian Government towards the people of Ukraine."

Comments attributed to Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Tony Buti:

"Western Australia has well over 4000 residents of Ukrainian descent.

"We are united with them in condemning the unprovoked and brutal aggression by the Russian Government towards the people of Ukraine.

"The images conveyed to us from Ukraine have been confronting and upsetting, with an alarming number of people in crisis.

"We hope these funds deliver much needed support on the ground for the heroic humanitarian efforts."
