Western Australia's pioneers of innovation have been invited to submit applications for the 2022 WA Innovator of the Year.

The WA Government program recognises and rewards the State's brightest talent for creating emerging new products, technology or services in the early stages of development.

Established in 2006, the program invites applicants to demonstrate how their innovation can benefit the WA economy, community or environment.

In 2021, Vision Pharma was named Overall Winner for developing treatment for inherited retinal diseases.

The program has six awards, with a total prize pool of $140,000, which assist winners to receive professional support and expertise to commercialise their innovations. This includes a prize of $70,000 for the Overall Winner.

Finalists receive business commercialisation training to help take their ideas to the next level, including pitch presentation skills, mentoring and legal and financial support. They will also receive professional photos and a promotional video of their innovation, explaining their idea.

The 2022 WA Innovator of the Year program is funded under the $16.7 million New Industries Fund and supported by primary sponsor Rio Tinto.

Program sponsors include Woodside, Wesfarmers, Business News, Wrays, Griffith Hack, Biodesign Australia, CERI, Moore Australia, Murfett Legal and PwC.

Applications open on May 3 and close on May 31. Click here to find out more information about the 2022 WA Innovator of the Year program.
