    • Call for tenders for a training program to ensure consumers can have meaningful engagement in research and contribute to high quality outcomes
    • McGowan Government committed to involvement of health consumers who have lived experience, as partners in health and medical research

A new program, funded through the McGowan Government's Future Health Research and Innovation Fund to enable health consumers to be at the forefront of health and medical research is set to deliver a unique opportunity within Western Australia.

The Consumer and Community Involvement in Research Workforce Advancement Program will demonstrate WA's commitment to tap into consumers' experience of the health care system.

The program provides a secure source of funding to drive health and medical research, innovation and commercialisation.

The program's objective is to upskill and increase the involvement of consumers in research projects, enabling them to actively partner with researchers and other stakeholders.

Universities, research institutes, training organisations and educators are encouraged to tender for the development of the training program, which involves the design and delivery of research training modules including practical research components, to support the development, skills and knowledge of consumers in research.

More information regarding the program and application documents can be accessed from the Tenders WA website.

Comments attributed to Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson:

"It's great to see WA on the front foot, leading the way in health and medical research for the benefit of all Western Australians.

"Tapping into community members' first-hand experience is invaluable, as their knowledge of the system can ultimately pave the way for future improvement to services.

"This inaugural program will enhance the ability of WA's research sector to deliver on outcomes that are of value to the end users of the health system."
