    • The Aussies coming to Perth in March and April next year
    • Top WA beaches to host iconic Surf Life Saving competition
    • Boost for WA tourism and local businesses

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championship will be returning to Western Australia in March and April next year at Scarborough, Trigg and Secret Harbour beaches.

More than 5,000 surf lifesavers from around Australia are expected to compete, with thousands more visitors cheering them on.

Known as The Aussies, the 2023 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will be held from Saturday March 25 to Sunday April 2, 2023.

Australia's 314 Surf Life Saving clubs have the opportunity to compete in 480 events across three age group championships - Youth, Masters and Open.

WA last hosted the event in 2018, generating about $15.8 million, nearly 69,000 visitor nights and bringing in more than 8,500 interstate and international visitors.

Adding to the action next year will be the Aussies festival zone in Scarborough, which will include food trucks, swimwear retailers and activities for families.

The Aussies, supported by the McGowan Government through Tourism WA, are another important addition to WA's growing major events calendar for the next 12 months.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

"The Aussies are one of the great mass participation events on Australia's sporting calendar each year.

"So locking in the dates for next year's championships is another boost for Western Australia's tourism industry.

"It will showcase some of WA's best beaches in a competitive but family-friendly environment.

"We are now seeing significant momentum as tourists start returning to WA to explore Perth and wander out yonder."
