Lanie Chopping has been appointed to the role of Director General of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC).

Ms Chopping has more than a decade of experience in the public sector. Most recently, she was Commissioner for Consumer Protection in Western Australia at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS), and as the Deputy Director General, Public Sector Reform at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. She is also currently serving as the Commissioner for Legal Aid WA.

Prior to joining the public sector, Ms Chopping was the Assistant Director at the Economic Regulation Authority.

Since joining the DLGSC in May 2021, Ms Chopping has overseen some significant achievements at the department.

This includes a new organisational structure and leadership team to deliver on key State Government priorities, including driving reform for local government regulation, and strategic planning and restructuring to address findings arising from the Perth Casino Royal Commission.

Ms Chopping has been interim Director General of the DLGSC since May 2021.
