A Melville Senior High School student is one step closer to achieving his dream of becoming a professional pilot after he was awarded a prestigious $5,000 State Government scholarship.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced Year 12 student Luke Yaxley is this year's recipient of the Minister for Education's Aviation Scholarship.

Luke's goals are to gain his private pilot licence and complete his Year 12 education.

After graduating from secondary school, he plans to further his aviation training by completing a Diploma in Aviation.

Melville Senior High School is one of four public schools in Western Australia that offers an aviation specialist program to cater for students seeking a career in aviation, science, engineering or other related pursuits.
