    Work begins on multi-storey classroom block at Kalamunda SHS

    • More than 1,000 students to benefit from the new facilities
    • Project being delivered as part of the McGowan Government's WA Recovery Plan

    Construction has commenced on a new multi-storey classroom block and visual arts building for Kalamunda Senior High School.


    Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery and Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes visited the school today to turn the first sod of the $25.3 million project, which is funded as part of the State Government's WA Recovery Plan and is set to be completed towards the end of next year.


    The new multi-storey block with eight classrooms will support the continued growth in enrolments at Kalamunda Senior High School.


    A new four-studio visual arts building will provide areas for drawing, painting, print-making, ceramics/sculpture and multi-media to help students develop their creative talents.


    Kalamunda Secondary Education Support Centre will also benefit with six new classrooms and ancillary areas, as well as an undercroft area that has been designed to accommodate up to 10 general classrooms to support future growth.


    A further $1.7 million has also been allocated to upgrade the STEM facilities, including a new science room and repurposed room to increase the home economics food area.


    Perth-based architectural firm TAG Architects has been appointed to design the new facilities.
