    • Almost $80,000 in grants support three local artists to deliver new work
    • The band Bad Weather supported to produce debut EP
    • The band SUPEREGO funded for their debut album
    • Artist Siobhan Cotchin will develop an EP and series of live performances

    The McGowan Government's Contemporary Music Fund (CMF) will support the production of debut EPs, an album and a series of live performances during 2022.

    The CMF provides funding to homegrown contemporary music artists and allows artists to capitalise on opportunities.

    The scheme aims to ensure a diverse representation of musicians and music professionals from Aboriginal, regional, cultural and gender diverse backgrounds.

    The WA artists include:

    • Callum Robertson will receive $17,690 towards the debut EP for band Bad Weather;
    • Rhys Hussey will receive $30,726 for the debut album for band SUPEREGO; and
    • Siobhan Cotchin will receive $31,019 for a three-track EP and series of live performances.

    Last financial year (2020-21), the CMF Grant Program provided funding to 42 applicants of almost $590,000 across both categories. Funding went towards the recording of music, business development, promotion, professional development and mentoring.

    The CMF 15k-plus category is currently open, with applications closing on February 17, 2022. Applications to the U-15k category (grants up to $15,000) are open year-round.

    For more information and to apply visit the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries' CMF page.

    Comments attributed to Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

    "The McGowan Government acknowledges that the music sector has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

    "We continue to show our commitment to helping the sector get back on its feet, through programs such as the Contemporary Music Fund and Getting the Show Back on the Road+.

    "I know that many artists have used the past two years to create music. If you'd like to bring your music to the world, I invite you to apply for a Contemporary Music Fund grant."
