    • Pre-feasibility study to meet industry demand for port infrastructure in Carnarvon
    • Study to analyse financial and economic viability of a multi-use barge loading facility
    • McGowan Government supporting industry growth and development in the Gascoyne

The McGowan Government has committed $300,000 to investigate the feasibility of a barge loading facility in Carnarvon.

The study will examine the potential for future private sector demand and financial and economic viability, progressing long term plans for commercial marine infrastructure in Carnarvon.

If the facility proves viable the study will pave the way for future private investment.

The Gascoyne is home to many diverse mining projects and emerging renewable resource industries, including major renewable hydrogen proposals. Carnarvon is well positioned to service bulk commodity exports for these industries.

The pre-feasibility study responds to growing industry demand for a barge loading facility, with no equivalent port infrastructure existing within 450 kilometres north or south of Carnarvon.

The Gascoyne Development Commission will oversee the study.

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"The pre-feasibility study is an important first step to drive significant private sector investment and create new opportunities for economic development in the Gascoyne.

"This is a strategic investment into the future development of Carnarvon's marine infrastructure that directly responds to industry demand.

"The McGowan Government is continuing to invest in the Gascoyne economy by supporting strong and consistent regional economic growth."
