    • Construction completed on 12 modern apartments for social housing in Duncraig
    • Apartments are close to Warwick train station, shops, parks and schools
    • McGowan Government is investing $2.1 billion on social housing

Housing Minister John Carey today toured the McGowan Government's most recently completed social housing development, located in Duncraig.

The $2.4 million development includes 12 modern two-bedroom apartments, which will help address the growing demand for singles and couples accommodation.

The apartment complex is part of the McGowan Government's record $875 million injection for social housing in the most recent State Budget.

A number of apartments were going to be sold to the private market, but will now be retained to provide housing to vulnerable Western Australians on our public housing waitlist.

The apartments are among around 500 homes that were going to be sold to the private market, but will now be retained to help provide a boost to social housing.

The apartments are located about 500 metres from the Warwick train station, the Carine Glades Shopping Centre and parks and schools.

The McGowan Government will invest $2.1 billion in social housing over the coming four years, which includes the delivery of 3,300 new social homes, and life-extending refurbishments and maintenance on thousands more.

Comments attributed to Housing Minister John Carey:

"This modern apartment block is a fantastic example of our housing reform in action. A number of these units were going to be sold to the private market, but now all will be retained to provide housing to vulnerable Western Australians.

"The 12 apartments are a direct result of our record $875 million injection in the most recent State Budget, and will provide a boost in housing for singles and couples, which is an area of very high demand.

"The McGowan Government is investing more into social housing than any previous Western Australian State Government, and will deliver around 3300 new public housing properties in the coming four years."

Comments attributed to Carine MLA Paul Lilburne:

"This is a fantastic apartment complex that will provide housing to vulnerable people living in our community.

"The apartments are modern, well-designed and close to public amenity.

"We know there is significant demand for housing right across the State, and the reforms put in place by the Minister for Housing are putting us in the best positon to deliver social housing as fast as possible in our heated construction market."
