    • Flood rescue boat for Canning-South Perth SES
    • State-of-the-art vessel designed with input from local volunteers, to ensure it meets the unit's needs

Canning-South Perth State Emergency Service (SES) received a boost today, with Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby presenting the unit with a new state-of-the-art flood rescue boat.

The vessel, which helps to locate people stranded in floodwaters, was designed with local volunteers to ensure it meets the needs of the unit and the local conditions.

It features the latest navigation and communication technology and boasts a new polymer hull to increase durability.

The flood rescue boat can transport up to five crew members and is equipped to provide transport for stretchers, casualties and paramedics.

The replacement boat was one of the vessels featured at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services' new fleet launch last month.

In addition to the new flood rescue boat, the Canning-South Perth SES unit already has two utilities, two rescue trailers, a logistics support trailer, a heavy flood boat and a 12-seat bus.

Comments attributed to Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby:

"The State Government is providing our frontline personnel with state-of-the-art vessels to allow them to do what they do best - protect Western Australians.

"During the design process, we tapped into the extensive knowledge of the local volunteers who will use the new rescue boat, to ensure it meets their needs.

"This boat is a great new addition to the Canning-South Perth SES, which currently has 50 active members and has the capability to respond to a range of emergencies.

"Earlier this year the unit assisted in the South West Land Division when storms struck the area, causing flooding and storm damage."
