    • Two modular social homes nearing completion in Kalgoorlie
    • It is the first time modular has been used for social housing in Kalgoorlie
    • The McGowan Government is investing $2.1 billion in social housing
    • Investment will include the delivery of 3,300 new social housing properties

Two modular homes recently transported to Kalgoorlie for social housing are nearing completion, and will be made available to two families on Kalgoorlie's public housing wait list.

The homes will be ready for families to move in before Christmas.

The homes were constructed in a factory in Perth and transported to Kalgoorlie on the back of trucks last month.

Over recent weeks, final works including plumbing and electrical have been completed on site in Kalgoorlie.

The modular homes include a six-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Somerville and a five-bedroom, two-bathroom home for Hannans.

To mark the properties nearing completion, the Housing Minister John Carey today visited the modular homes.

The homes are being delivered as part of the McGowan Government's $221 million Housing and Homelessness Investment Package and were originally intended to be delivered using traditional construction methods.

In Western Australia's heated construction market, modular housing provides an alternative way to deliver social housing faster.

The McGowan Government recently announced an additional two modular homes would also be used for social housing in Laverton, among the first 15 to be contracted as part of State's Modular Build Program.

The McGowan Government is investing $2.1 billion on social housing over the coming four years, including the record $875 million injection in the most recent State Budget.

This investment will include the delivery of 3,300 new homes.

Comments attributed to Housing Minister John Carey:

"Modular provides us with a great option for getting housing delivered faster in our current heated construction market.

"I visited both of these homes when they were under construction in Perth - to see them nearing completion on site in Kalgoorlie is fantastic.

"These properties look great and will be a very welcome early Christmas present for two families on Kalgoorlie's public housing waitlist.

"As the Minister for Housing I will continue to look at all available options to get social housing delivered as fast as possible in our heated construction market.

"We're investing record amounts in social housing, and will spend $2.1 billion over the coming four years, which will include the delivery of around 3,300 new homes."

Comments attributed to Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

"These homes look absolutely fantastic and it's brilliant news that two families in need will be provided a great new home before Christmas.

"The reality is if the Government and Minister weren't diversifying the delivery of our social housing investment programs, these homes would still be under construction.

"There is a lot of work still to be done, and while there are no quick fixes to the challenges we face in housing, the McGowan Government is tackling the issue head on by investing $2.1 billion over the coming four years for social housing."
