Collie Futures Small Grants driving local jobs and diversification

    21/11/2021 2:30 PM
    • Additional $2 million committed to the Collie Futures Small Grant Program
    • Grants of up to $100,000 available to businesses and not-for-profits in Collie to drive local jobs
    • Collie Futures Economic Advisory Group reconvened with new members

The McGowan Government is putting new funding on the table to support local-level projects that drive jobs and economic diversification in Collie.

The Collie Futures Small Grant Program was a successful initiative in the McGowan Government's first term, funding projects ranging from feasibility studies into major industrial developments to support for tourism events and redevelopments of local business premises.

In total, 28 businesses and not-for-profits received small grants from the previous $2 million funding pool.

As part of its ongoing commitment to diversifying Collie's economy, the McGowan Government is investing a further $2 million towards a new round of the program.

Grants of up to $100,000 are available for businesses and not-for-profit organisations seeking to drive economic impact in the Collie region and create job opportunities.

Projects can include development of new business streams, new technologies, research, business case development, training and events.

Grant applicants must demonstrate a clear economic benefit to the Collie region to be successful.

Meanwhile, the Collie Futures Economic Advisory Group has been reconvened with new members, and will be chaired by Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns.

The group assesses applications and provides advice for the Minister.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"This program has already transformed Collie through a wide range of projects, generating economic benefits and creating local jobs.

"There is genuine excitement and enthusiasm about the possibilities of emerging industries in Collie and this program ensures there is support to get projects off the ground.

"From tourism projects to supporting planning for industrial developments, the Collie Futures Small Grants is helping underpin the town's transition and economic future."

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"While our large-scale investments into Collie are helping to ensure a strong future for this town, we're also backing smaller, locally-led projects that deliver benefits for Collie.

"Often these projects will create a real economic diversity in the town: like our support for Collie Electrical Service's new shopfront in town, which has supported six new jobs at a local business.

"We encourage anyone with an idea or proposal to create jobs in Collie to come forward and see how our Government can help make that vision into reality."

Comments attributed to Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns:

"The additional $2 million government investment into our Collie economy is great news for local businesses and provides opportunities to expand and try new things.

"I look forward to chairing the newly re-formed Collie Futures Economic Advisory Group and working with the six local members, some who've been involved previously and others who are new faces to the group.

"What they bring to the role is a wealth of experience and a passion for making sure Collie has a bright and prosperous future."
