    • Production proudly supported by the McGowan Government through the $16 million Western Australian Screen Fund
    • Boost for the Goldfields-Esperance Region
    • Production estimated to generate vital regional expenditure of more than $6 million

The Goldfields-Esperance Region will be showcased in the third series of the successful drama TV series Mystery Road: Origin.

The previous two series were shot in the Kimberley, and were sold around the world, reaching new audiences and significantly raising the profile of WA as a place to visit. Mystery Road series 2 was the highest-rating Australian adult TV drama of 2020.

Mystery Road: Origin is supported by Screenwest and the Western Australian Screen Fund which encourages regional film industry activity - enabling local jobs and contributing to the vibrancy of regional communities.

The McGowan Government's diligent management of COVID-19 makes projects like this attractive to the international industry. Western Australia continues to be a safe place for production to be filmed.

Mystery Road: Origin will air on the ABC in 2022.

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase a region that comprises just under a third of WA - spanning the rugged red earth through to its talc-white beaches.

"Let's hope Jay's luck changes in this new season and that he finds some personal gold in this fabulous landscape."

Comments attributed to Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

"I am absolutely delighted to hear that Mystery Road will be filming in Kalgoorlie.

"This is such a wonderful series and the economic and social benefits that it will bring to the region will provide a fantastic boost."

Mystery Road: Origin is produced by Bunya Productions for the ABC, with major production investment from Screen Australia's First Nations Department in association with Screenwest and the Western Australian Screen Fund supported through the State Government of WA's Royalties for Regions program. Financed in association with Screen NSW, with All3Media International handling international sales.
