Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Roger Cook have welcomed the re-appointment of Professor Peter Klinken AC as Chair of both the Lotterywest and Healthway boards for a further three years.
Highly regarded as an eminent leader, academic and scientist, Professor Klinken is presently the Chief Scientist of Western Australia and holds a Companion of the Order of Australia.
Professor Klinken has served as chairperson of both boards since October 2018 following the decision to better align Lotterywest and Healthway.
Both Lotterywest and Healthway operate under their own legislation. The alignment of the two organisations has achieved significant efficiencies and created integrated grant making opportunities to optimise community impact.
Both organisations continue to work towards the shared vision of 'Building a better and healthier WA together'.
Under Professor Klinken's leadership last financial year, Lotterywest delivered record returns of $313.4 million to the WA community in direct and statutory grant allocations. Over the same period, more than $18.5 million worth of Healthway grants and sponsorships were provided, supporting 318 projects.
Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:
"Professor Klinken's longstanding and impressive record for service to health, science and, more recently, community funding has been an asset for the wider WA community.
"He has been instrumental in providing clear direction and strong leadership at Lotterywest to achieve record results.
"I'd like to congratulate Professor Klinken on his re-appointment and look forward to his ongoing contribution to the public service."
Comments attributed to Health Minister Roger Cook:
"Professor Klinken is a valued leader in medical research, health and new discoveries.
"His continued insight and passion towards the promotion of WA's health and wellbeing are invaluable."
