Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced the Busselton-based civil engineering contractor will begin undertaking Stage 2B - Phase 2 of Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront this month.

A focus will be upgrades to road, drainage, car parking and services along Casuarina Drive. The services upgrades will replace ageing power, water and telecommunications infrastructure, which will be consolidated into a single services corridor.

Servicing work will put in place the enabling infrastructure essential to progress the first scope of Stage 3 works in the Bunbury Outer Harbour, which will further unlock the coastal city's potential including as a marine industry hub.

Generating local job opportunities continues be a strong theme of the project, with Leeuwin Civil's Bunbury-based workforce expected to have opportunities to work on the project.

More than 85 per cent of the overall Phase 2 Casuarina Drive Redevelopment contract amount will be spent locally. Sub-contractors engaged will cover electrical, bitumen and asphalt, concreting and paving, surveying, line making, security, and traffic management.

Phase 1 of the Casuarina Drive Redevelopment project is nearing completion. Once complete, the area will be greatly enhanced as a place for families with pedestrian and cycle links, improved beach access, an accessible playground and shaded BBQ areas.

"It is fantastic to see the works for Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront progressing and this project again delivering local jobs and contracts for regional businesses.

"Previous stages of this project have been incredibly well received and have changed the way our community uses Koombana Bay by providing greater access and more opportunities for activity, and I expect we will see the same changes occur on Casuarina Drive when this stage of the project is complete."
