    • Increased support services for people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage in north-eastern suburbs
    • Indigo Junction has connected with over 4,000 people in need in 12 months

    Community Services Minister Simone McGurk has officially opened the new Karnany Resource Centre in Midland, presenting Indigo Junction Incorporated (Indigo Junction) with a $480,000 grant through Lotterywest.

    The funding will support Indigo Junction to maintain and operate the newly refurbished Karnany Resource Centre, which provides much needed local supports for people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage in the north-eastern suburbs.

    The not-for-profit organisation works collaboratively with the Department of Communities, City of Swan and other local organisations to develop and deliver responses that support the needs of vulnerable people in the community.

    The well-regarded Karnany service model is now in its third decade of operation. It offers community members a wide range of supports, including services for:

    • comorbid mental health and/or alcohol and other drug issues;
    • family and domestic violence;
    • chronic health conditions;
    • homelessness, and;
    • family and relationship breakdowns.

    Over the past 12 months, Indigo Junction has connected with more than 4,000 people in need of assistance and support.

    More than 87 per cent of people connecting with Indigo Junction identify as Aboriginal, and Indigo Junction has built a trusted relationship with local Aboriginal organisations and communities.

    The Lotterywest funding will ensure Indigo Junction can increase and improve the level of services provided to people accessing the Karnany facility.

    Comments attributed to Community Services Minister Simone McGurk:
