- Perth to host an international science conference and a performing arts congress in 2024
Events to attract hundreds of delegates from around the world
Conferences secured by Business Events Perth, funded by the McGowan Government through Tourism WA
Hundreds of delegates from around the world will converge on Perth in 2024 to discuss the use of radio and infrared frequencies in fields as diverse as space science, nuclear fusion and biology as part of an international science conference.
The 49th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves has been secured for Western Australia, which will mark the first time the event has been held in Australia in 12 years.
The McGowan Government, through Tourism WA, provides funding to Business Events Perth (BE Perth) to attract outstanding conferences to the State and strengthen WA's reputation as a desirable destination for business events.
The event will bring together some of the world's top international researchers to discuss the evolution of the use of ultra-high frequencies in areas such as health, environmental science and telecommunication.
The six-day conference is the largest of its kind and is expected to inject more than $3 million into the WA economy.
Perth has also been named as the host of the 2024 International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) Congress - another large-scale event which will bring more than 500 delegates to the State. This is also expected to inject more than $3 million into the State's economy.
It's the first time the ISPA Congress will come to Perth. It's previously been held in Melbourne and Sydney, and at global destinations such as New York and Guadalajara, Mexico.
In 2020-21, BE Perth secured 67 national and international business events set to occur in WA up to 2024, which will boost the State's economy by more than $54 million.
Funding from the McGowan Government through Tourism Western Australia enabled BE Perth to directly support the staging of 190 local business events, connecting more than 82,000 delegates across the State assisting industry recovery and local jobs.
