    • Experience Kalbarri at Half Price promotion sold out in seven days
    • Initiative supported local tourism operators affected by Cyclone Seroja
    • Supported by State Government, through Tourism Western Australia

Western Australians have made the most of their Kalbarri holidays in the past week through the Experience Kalbarri at Half Price promotion, with all bookings sold out in seven days.

Supported by the State Government through Tourism WA, the promotion was launched last week and encouraged visitors to book tours, experiences and boat hire across the region by offering discounts, up to a total value of $50,000.

The promotion supported these operators in their ongoing recovery from Cyclone Seroja.

Close to 1,000 people took up more than 350 bookings in the past week across a range of experiences including scenic flights, boat cruises, fishing charters, horse riding, quad bike and canoeing tours and much more.

It is one of a number of initiatives to support tourism operators devastated by Cyclone Seroja, including $220,000 for Australia's Coral Coast regional tourism organisation to market Kalbarri and surrounds to travellers, and the appointment of a Tourism WA project officer in Geraldton.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister David Templeman:

"It's great news for the region that almost 1,000 people have taken this opportunity to experience a tour, attraction or experience while supporting tourism operators in the Kalbarri region.

"Anecdotally, operators have reported families extending their stay in the town as a result of the half price promotion and many others who booked several different tours and experiences, or hired equipment such as kayaks, to make the most of the discount which is a boost for the area.

"Among the many things for people to do and see, the scenic flight over the Kalbarri National Park, Hutt Lagoon Pink Lake and Abrolhos Islands was a popular choice, and many took the chance to go on fishing tours, horse riding, quad biking and abseiling.

"I'd like to acknowledge the hard work of the Kalbarri Visitor Centre staff who worked tirelessly during the week of the promotion to help achieve this fantastic result and I encourage Western Australians to continue to explore this magnificent region."
