    • WA Industry Link Regional Communication Forums begin today in Bunbury
    • A series of forums to be held across regional Western Australia to help businesses compete for State contracts, worth more than $30 billion per year
    • McGowan Government committed to boosting regional economies and creating jobs

The WA Industry Link Regional Communication Forums will again be rolled out across the State, providing businesses with information about upcoming Western Australian Government contract opportunities.

Launched in 2019, the forums are part of the McGowan Government's commitment to boost regional economies and create jobs. They commence in Bunbury today, before visiting all nine regions in WA.

The forums give small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) the opportunity to hear from WA Government agencies about local contract opportunities in their region.

This will help them gain a better understanding of how to benefit from the State's estimated annual $30 billion spend on goods, services and works.

SMEs will receive information related to government initiatives, including the Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy (WAIPS), the updated Buy Local Policy 2020 and the Local Capability Fund.

Details of upcoming project pipelines, how to access these contracts and the latest regional policy sourcing information will also be discussed, with speakers from both the Department of Finance and Department of Training and Workforce Development attending.

Comments attributed to State Development, Jobs and Trade Minister Roger Cook:

"The WA Buy Local Policy launched in July 2020 with the aim of creating 3,000 regional jobs and this target was surpassed within 12 months.

"The Regional Communication Forums have been a key factor in our success, helping to promote the State Government's commitment of supporting the regional economy.

"Businesses gain a better understanding of how to compete for the pipeline of contracts available in their region, learn how to access funding and tap into the State Government support networks available to them.

"I encourage businesses to attend their local forum and ensure they are fully prepared to compete for available State Government contracts worth an estimated $30 billion per year."
