    • Development application lodged for innovative new homes at Middleton Beach Activity Centre redevelopment
    • Duettes purpose designed and built to offer flexible living and working space
    • Land made available for more housing options in Albany

An innovative, new housing product planned for Albany's mixed-use precinct at Middleton Beach is one step closer, with submission of a development application to the City of Albany.

The unique Duettes houses, proposed to be constructed and sold as completed homes ready to occupy, include two separate accommodation areas in two-storey terrace homes.

Duettes is the first purpose designed medium density mixed-use development by DevelopmentWA to be launched to market in the Great Southern region.

A decision on the development application is expected next month. A tender for the construction of the homes will be released following development approval.

Progress is also continuing on the Middleton Beach Activity Centre project.

Located within DevelopmentWA's Middleton Beach Activity Centre area, the drawcard will be a premium hotel at Middleton Beach announced last year.

The sale of the 3,700sqm site to a consortium between Pacifica Developments and Ausglobal Group, with the Seashells Group as the hotel operator, will see the development of a four-star-plus new hotel, five to seven storeys, with 80 to 100 rooms.

The Middleton Beach Activity Centre comprises an expanded foreshore reserve and public open space, and parcels of land offering the potential for tourist facilities, restaurants, retail and permanent, holiday and short-stay accommodation.

Comments attributed to Lands Minister Tony Buti:

"The McGowan Government has invested heavily in the growth and development of Albany.

"Middleton Beach will be the first development in Western Australia to feature Duettes, a new mixed-use housing product from DevelopmentWA.

"Duettes are a unique product, which will deliver genuinely flexible and modern housing choice for people living and working in regional WA.

"They are a great example of the innovative approach the McGowan Government is bringing to create vibrant, connected communities to support our growing population right across the State.

"Importantly, developments like this will also address the need for more land with diverse housing options.

"These opportunities will only continue to grow as this exciting new precinct takes shape - ultimately delivering a wealth of new employment opportunities in the region's growing hospitality and tourism industry."

Comments attributed to Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

"Seeing development like this in Albany is extremely exciting. It will not only create more housing options and working spaces but also a number of new, local jobs.

"It's wonderful to see the progress being made on the Middleton Beach Activity Centre and the opportunities it has already opened up for local contractors.

"Occupying a prime, oceanfront location in Albany will benefit Albany's tourism and hospitality sectors, encourage more people to visit Albany and create many new local jobs."
