- Changes to energy sector governance arrangements commence today
- The improved arrangements support the rapid pace of change in the energy sector
Improvements to the governance arrangements for Western Australia's energy sector commenced today (July 1).
The new arrangements strengthen the roles of the governance bodies to respond more effectively to the rapid pace of change brought about by emerging energy technologies.
From today, responsibility for the administration of the Wholesale Electricity Market Rules and Gas Services Information Rules will transfer to the Coordinator of Energy Kate Ryan - supported by Energy Policy WA.
The Coordinator of Energy will also be responsible for the ongoing evolution of the energy market, including a number of market reviews. This will enable the Economic Regulation Authority to focus on economic regulation, price setting, licensing and compliance monitoring.
Stakeholder engagement will be boosted by introducing an independent Chair for the Market Advisory Committee and Gas Advisory Board; Peter Kolf has been appointed interim Chair.
Mr Kolf led the former Rule Change Panel and was previously the Chair of the Independent Market Operator. A process to recruit a permanent Chair will commence in the coming months.
The Coordinator of Energy will also administer the new Pilbara Networks Rules which commenced today. For more information, visit https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/energy-policy-wa/energy-rules-and-procedures
