    • Aurecon Australasia awarded tender for the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) Integrated Infrastructure Program
    • Program of studies will inform next stages of infrastructure development at the AMC

Development at the Australian Marine Complex in Henderson has taken a significant step forward, with Australian-owned Aurecon Australasia Pty Ltd (Aurecon) awarded the tender for technical studies that will inform future expansion.

The Integrated Infrastructure Program (IIP) will guide the next stages of infrastructure development at the AMC and build on the concepts developed in the AMC Strategic Infrastructure and Land Use Plan (SILUP) released last November.

The program aims to achieve greater integration and optimisation of infrastructure and industry at the AMC, cementing its position as a world-class, globally competitive hub for naval shipbuilding and sustainment, fabrication, assembly, maintenance and technology.

Aurecon will use a locally based workforce including Perth-based DHI who will provide expertise in wave and tide modelling.

The Western Australian Government in conjunction with the Department of Defence are funding the IIP and other planning studies to inform future development at the AMC.

The Western Australian Government has invested $87.6 million in four fast-tracked infrastructure projects at the AMC, following the development of the AMC SILUP, creating around 600 construction jobs.

Comments attributed to Defence Industry Minister Paul Papalia:

"The AMC in Henderson is a major driver for WA's defence industry and the IIP will inform the next stages of its development.

"WA's burgeoning defence industry is a significant employer of Western Australians, and it's important we investigate future infrastructure requirements to support the industry and create more jobs.

"Growing the defence industry in WA is critical if we want to successfully diversify our economy, and further developing the AMC has a central role to play.

"We have the expertise and are continuing to develop our infrastructure and workforce to ensure the AMC continues to support the Royal Australian Navy's shipbuilding and sustainment needs.

"The partnership between the Western Australian Government and the Department of Defence has been very effective and we look forward to continuing to work closely together in the national interest."

Comments attributed to Lands Minister Tony Buti:

"The AMC and the companies that operate at the complex are key employers of Western Australians.

"The ongoing growth and the McGowan Government's investment in the Australian Marine Complex will ensure we can meet the requirements of the industry in coming years.

"The McGowan Government has committed to four fast-tracked infrastructure projects at the AMC, and it is estimated these will create around 600 local construction jobs.

"The IIP aims to inform future infrastructure projects and requirements at the AMC which is intended to create more local jobs for Western Australians."
