    • 62 events awarded funding as part of Tourism Western Australia's 2021-2022 Regional Events Scheme
    • Includes 12 new events funded across the State
    • Supported by the State Government through Tourism WA and Royalties for Regions

Visitors will have plenty of reasons to explore the State with 62 exciting and diverse events awarded funding through Tourism WA's 2021-2022 Regional Events Scheme.

Up to $1 million is shared through the annual funding round, which supports smaller and developing regional events. This funding includes $150,000 reserved for the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme for events that develop and promote the leadership of Aboriginal people.

The scheme is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA and Royalties for Regions.

Among 12 new events supported in 2021-22 is the Sydney Memorial Weekend in Geraldton to mark the 80th anniversary of the loss of the HMAS Sydney and its crew; the Wadandi Surfing classic in the South-West which blends local Aboriginal culture and surfing; and the Carnarvon Windfest in the Gascoyne.

In addition, 17 events that were previously awarded funding and postponed until this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, will be held before December 31, 2021.

The 62 events awarded funding under the latest round will be held around the State from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister David Templeman:

"It's great news that 62 events spanning every region in Western Australia have been awarded funding through the latest round of the Regional Events Scheme.

"Regional events play an important role in attracting visitors to a destination and boosting the local economy - this is particularly important as the industry continues to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Whether it's enjoying an outback experience at the 2021 Kalgoorlie Desert Race, marvelling at the natural beauty of the Mullewa Wildflower Festival or taking in the sounds of the Pearl Coast Jazz Festival in the Kimberley, I encourage everyone to get out into the regions, travel somewhere they've never been and have an unforgettable WA experience."

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"Regional events are back up and running across all nine regions of Western Australia, offering fabulous family friendly entertainment full of art, culture, food, fun and laughter.

"Events showcase regional WA and encourage people to travel and explore the unique features of the State, helping to boost our regional economies and supporting local jobs.

"Events are a favourite on the calendar of the host communities, encouraging local participation and engagement and bringing a sense of vibrancy the region."
